Cold, hard cash donations are what makes this possible. These companies ROCK!! THANKS for your support!
These people have donated STUFF, media attention & magic machine time, very important as well.. thanks!
Special thanks to CAFE BRIO for waiting until after the race for their web site revisions! WHEW!
I am STILL looking for a few MORE SPONSORS! If you'd like to help out, please contact me! THANKS!
The "Evil Eye2", shown below, was only "alive" for the 2008 KGC Race. 14 days after the race...
it was cut in half, 4 foot wheels were made and we converted it to a 4 seater to make the "Duck Flambe"
5/20 (4 days to race) At 1:35 AM I have a machine that is fully functioning. The untrained eye will think the photo above doesn't look much different than before, but if you look closely you will see that everything works.. ha ha ha... and it cost me some knuckles... weeeee!
5/19 (5 days left) Didn't peddle today, but steering, brakes & other details got dialed!
5/18 (with 6 days to go) Looking pretty good... a LITTLE behind schedule, but that is to be expected with the extra things I've needed to do lately... it always happens.. right?
5/18 (6 days) Chains are all in, tesioners are almost done (one left) with steering and brakes, TOMORROW it should be ready to ride!
5/18 (6 days away!) Another snaffu from Northern Tool... axles with 1/2 the treads cut.. ugh! I had to cut the threads the rest of the way so I could put a nut on. *cancel the gym membership* ... Good thing Ken noticed, I would have wrenched something on and it would of been stuck forever!
5/17 (7 days left) Doesn't seem like it should take ALL DAY to make a set of sprokets. But when you have to dig through a pile of 20 bikes counting sproket teeth, getting them off the bikes and then figuring out which ones are the ones you need... it can!
5/17 (7 days) these spacers are exactly 7/8th.. yeah lathe! (Thanks Ken!)
5/17 (tick tock.. 7 days) Looks bad, but sometimes you have to go back to get ahead! ha ha!
5/16 (8 days til the race) Both stations in! Next step, chains and tensioners!
5/16 (8 days) A little something to hold the Jack-shaft...
5/16 (8 days away) Figuring out what gearing to use to make this thing GO!
5/14 (oh crap! 10 days to go!!) Got seats and 1 set of peddles on... ALMOST ride-able! ha ha
A nice shot from FunGuy proving I made this thing! Really, it's me..
5/13 (11 days to go) seat frame mounted on frame
5/13 (11 days away) How to make a seat with plywood, carpet pad, foam and old t-shirts
5/12 (12 days left) Got the seat frames figured out and made! Really light! (Base of seats drying in background, glue plywood and carpet pad)
5/11 (13 days left!) HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
We got the rolling chassis done and tread on the tires! WHEW!
(5/11) I had it rolling by 3:00 -- next comes tread!
5/11 (13 days to go!) Kris... yes I have help! Getting glue ready for tread and 52 spokes!
5/10 (14 days away!) okay, don't be fooled, I have a LONG way to go, but I got the technical section of the frame built (thank you Ken for all the tips & tricks and the 4 foot axle!) I hope to have a rolling chassis by the end of the day Sunday, May 11th. Check back and see!
5/8 Found out my new Burning Man trike fits a 12 pack PERFECTLY with room for another 6-pack! he he he...
5/8 (16 days left) Got the other axle welded (UPS delivered ANOTHER empty box today.. it's starting to get funny! They have lost 4 axles so far...) Got my fork done too... slot / tab welding idea from the Big Rig Jig from Burning Man. I just saw some interior shots the other day...
5/8 Ken is back in town and said "that's no good" when he looked at my thick fork tubes, he found a bike frame with the right diam. tube and tossed it my way.. lost 2.5 lbs changing them out!!! YEAH! (new in, old out in photo)
On May 2nd, John's Auto Wrecking hooked me up with this! (My steering)....
...and today (5/7 - 17 days to go) I cleaned it up, cut off what I didn't need and got this!
5/7 (17 days left) I've been waiting for parts... Northern Tool can't pack a box that won't blow open. 3 out of 4 axles went missing on the way, now they've all been sent again... ugh. I've been waiting for over 2 weeks for these... booooo on Northern Tool (and UPS... weak!)
Also, my chromoly tubing got here today... about a week late too... So, I'll just cut something... photo by FunGuy.
5/4 (20 days away) Hey! It looks like it came like that! ha ha ha ha...
5/4 (20 days left) The cheater way to go.... weld the 2 halfs together...
you can do this with a grinder too, but the lathe is RIGHT THERE, ya know...
5/4 (20 days left) Today, I need to try to make "B" out of "A" on Ken's lathe... Weeeeee!
(these WILL BE longer axles that fit into a differential)
5/2 (22 days to go) THREE spoked, waiting for more parts in the mail CRAP!!!
5/1 (23 days left) Two spoked, one to go!
5/1 (23 days left) Makin' wheels!
4/30 (24 days til race) Cuttin tires!
4/30 (24 days to go) Makin' Spokes!
4/29 (25 days left) - These tires will be going on to a better place... soon.
4/29 (25 days left) - Ready to weld the hubs!
4/29 (25 days left) - Parts cut on Holly Yashi's water jet cutter!
